Tony Gullatta came up with the idea of doing something special for our good friend Kenny Berends. Tony is in the process of restoring/rebuilding an old 36 Ford Coupe Stock Car and came up with some extra panels. He recreated the side of a coupe, similar to the one Kenny ran at Sportsman Park in 1953-55. When he finished, he thought it only correct that I letter the car as I did almost 50 years ago. We conspired to put this together and presented it to Kenny this afternoon. First time I've seen "the old man" almost get emotional. To say that he was pleased was an understatement. He and Shirley are still talking about it, and called me again to press their thanks. The big thanks goes to Tony Gullatta and his craftsmanship. His restoration work is among the best in country. It was Tony that did most of the restoration on the Eddie Sachs Dean Van Lines car, but never got the credit for it that he deserved. Kenny said that my lettering was a lot straighter since I quit drinking! Attached are a couple of pictures.
